As a multidisciplinary visual artist, creative director, curator and educator, Michael balances commercial work and fine art with his position as an adjunct professor at Parsons School of Design. He’s been nominated three times for an excellence in teaching award.
Michael's clientele includes Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Alicia Keys; MacArthur 'Genius' Award winner choreographer Shen Wei; Wu-Tang's RZA; legendary photographers Jim Marshall and Timothy White, and Jane's Addiction. His design work for Burners Without Borders was included in the Smithsonian Institution 2018 No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man exhibition, and is now part of their permanent collection. Michael has also designed work for the Computer World Smithsonian Awards at the Smithsonian Institution.
His published works include graphic designs in Taschen's Guide To Innovative Web Navigation and Logo Design Volume II; Extreme Design by Spencer Drate and Jutka Salavetz; 20 Years Of Style: The World According To Paper by Kim Hastreiter and David Hershkovitz; TRImarchi: Celebrating 10 Years of TMDG, and an interview with visionary artist Alex Grey in Towards 2012: The Reality Sandwich Compendium.
He lectures, moderates panels, exhibits fine art and facilitates workshops and retreats around the globe. Michael's panelists include: Milton Glaser, Mirko Ilić, Ross Bleckner, Android Jones, Alex Grey, Graham Hancock and Daniel Pinchbeck. Michael has organized events and retreats with Sting, Russell Brand, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Elena Brower, Reggie Watts, Thievery Corp., Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky, East Forest and Sharon Gannon. His speaking engagements include Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in London, TRImarchi in Argentina, Altos de Chavon in the Dominican Republic, and the Burning Man Global Leadership Conference in San Francisco.
Michael actively seeks projects like the 2016 VR piece Skin in the Game that he co-directed about Pharrell Williams, Daniel Arsham and David Campbell's collaboration with the choreographer for the evening-length performance of Rules of the Game. Viewers of SITG got to experience from the dancers’ perspective what it is like being on stage at the BAM Opera House and the stage Frank Lloyd Wright designed at the Guggenheim Museum. The VR piece was presented alongside performances at Brooklyn's BAM Opera House and at Royce Hall in Los Angeles. It was also shown independently at the National YoungArts Foundation in Los Angeles and the 2017 Treefort Music Festival.
